Already Over: The
Can we please agree now to put an end to the pseudo-semi-ironic use of “the” before words that don’t properly take a definite article, as in “The Google,” “playing the rock,” etc.? Adds no cleverness. It’s just another annoying blogger cliche. I’m just sayin’.
Next up: OM NOM NOM.
Oh noes! I is robbed of teh ironies!
Juuuuuuust kidding. I totally hear you on the grammatically incorrect use of “the”, and even more with the “OM NOM NOM”. 5 minutes in the comments section of Cute Overload and I want to claw my eyes out. “OM NOM TEH WIDDLE KITTIE FEETSIES! I NEEDS TO MUNCHES YOUR TEENSIE TOESIES!” Jesus christ, people. Most of you are at least 45 years old. Get a hold of yourselves.
I don’t know if ironic grammar corruption will EVER go out of style, guys. After all, it’s a trend strengthened every time we see someone non-ironically compose an incomprehensible, wouldn’t-pass-first-grade sentence. And also, in regards to the borked caption branch of the “cute overload” meme, it’s inspired by children, whom many people find endlessly adorable, and everyone knows that children are just short, large-headed underdeveloped stupid humans. They are so ugly and helpless that they are adorable. If we did not find them appealing and lovable, we would fail to give them the attention (physically and emotionally) for which they are terribly dependent, and we probably not survive as a species.
Hence, teh cutsies is teh evolutionary trait and youse can has encourage it.
