You are how you act. I don’t say “you are who you want to be” because some people are really unaware of how the way they act gives off a different impression than what they really want to be like. Myself included. However, this isn’t the case here, so back on point…

You don’t want to be the girl who gets to meet mom! Sure, you’re a woman, deserving of all the respect that comes with being an adult in modern society. But you’re also unique and bold, and you don’t live up to the submissive pretty pixie stereotype. You are punk rock. The tradeoff for acting like that is that there are many people out there who do not think you live up to the standards of being a traditional woman. Well, you are certainly not traditional, but you definitely are a woman.

Your problem is that you’re sometimes meeting men who are not self-assured, who don’t respect you fully, and who don’t quite get along with their parents when they’re not being sycophantic. You probably noticed that there are many other things wrong with these dudes as well. Yes, much of it ties together. No, you should not date these men. The whole “can’t take you home to meet mom” idea? Bullshit, insulting, cowardly. Take it as a symptom that you need to get the fuck out of there immediately.
