I just feel like something has gone terribly wrong in the PR industry, if they simply cannot get a hold of any of these big stories before they break viral but they’re totally good at filling up the email inboxes of bored Styles reporters and billing the clients for the time. Like, maybe Bloomberg’s people should sit down with NYPD brass and say, “Listen, stop shooting people and things in broad daylight for a bit, if you can.” Or maybe Progressive’s PR team should have said at some point, “Hey, you know those cases with dead clients that you’re litigating to the very end of the universe? Here’s some money from our budget; pay these policies in full and keep it quiet.”

I do this as a developer all the time. “Take half of my project money and spend it on a respectable graphic designer, because this project will be better off for it.” The mission of the enterprise is more important than my personal immediate needs, and being a part of successful projects is way more valuable to me than my immediate profit margins. At the end of the day, my morale is not in the toilet because my best sites were designed by professionals through and through. Can’t say the same for these other organizations today, can we?
