I guess we want to rail on the NYPD all day when someone’s accused of pepper spraying a white girl in her 20s, but there’s not much talk in public when the police commissioner’s son is accused of raping an unidentified woman. (Maybe we’re not sure if we care until she shows her face! Do we approve or not? 2/10? Or maybe it’s just too much of a buzzkill to be talking about on Facebook or any other outlet where we’d normally talk about bands, memes, TV shows, etc.)

Ms. Fairstein said Mr. Vance could have passed the case off to a district attorney in another county if its implications had unduly concerned him.

“I don’t think this is a case that is going to trouble Cy or the office,” she said.

Mr. Morgenthau said complicated cases involving public figures come with the turf. “That’s what you get that big salary for,” he said. “You have to take the hard cases. I’m sure he’ll handle it appropriately.”

Sorry, legendary DA Robert Morgenthau who served as Cyrus Vance’s boss for many years, but I am not at all sure that he will handle it appropriately. For one thing, this is the prosecutor’s office that botched the DSK case and totally dropped the ball on a case where two police officers broke into a woman’s apartment and one of them raped her. For another thing, the credibility of the regime of Ray Kelly is in serious doubt as the hits just keep on coming… they trample on civil liberties in about a hundred different ways, they’re highly prone to criminal corruption, they harass and harm the public more than they protect it, they botch investigations that they couldn’t be bothered to complete, and then they lie through their teeth about it

I’m just surprised anyone left living witnesses here! Just go all the way and put the victim in an incinerator before she can tell anyone. Blame a black guy in a van. Plant evidence. Lie in court to a jury and judge. Would that be beneath the current NYPD? I don’t think so! It’s open season on the dimwitted, unmotivated public, apparently.
