A Word On: Beacon's Closet

As I was in the neighborhood, I stopped in the Williamsburg location of Beacon’s Closet on Saturday. I’ve been there before and have been frustrated by the lack of mens’ offerings, but I thought I’d give it another try. My particular need: khaki shorts.

It took me 10 minutes to find the place where they keep mens’ shorts in there because they practically don’t exist. There’s a hanger rack where they keep them, and there were no more than a dozen on there. That’s their whole lineup. IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER. One pair was khaki. They were not even close to my size.

Meanwhile, they reject untold tons of clothes per year for trade-in because the stoopid fucking hipsters behind the intake counter are primarily obsessed with women’s couture. And they hate men. They keep the men’s section pitifully stocked. (for Christ’s sake, they turned away a like-new suit coat and many kinds of common-size dress pants about 6 months ago). I’m sure in the last month they’ve rejected about 20 of the exact kind of shorts I was looking for in my size.

FAIL.

Never going back.

(Old Navy has a 50% off men’s sale this week. I got what I needed there: 2 pairs of shorts for $20.)
